Putting my thoughts into words

We all have many ideas. Being in finance, we have our views on investments — what makes sense, what doesn’t. More often than not, we talk about these with the people around us, but are hardly accountable to what we say at that very point in time. I once had a position in Tesla ($200 before the stock split), and it was large position because of a fat finger trade to average down, but sold it when it was above my cost of about $300. If only…you know the story.

I’d like to look back at what I thought of the company then, and challenge myself whether it was the right decision.

Going forward in 2021, there are plenty of ideas, themes, stories that one can buy into. I have a pretty strong conviction that software and electric vehicles will be the themes for the year. However, we only know so little about the companies in these space and hence I strive to make it a point to understand, and more importantly, put my understanding into words what these companies are about. I may or may not be right, but at least I’ve put my thoughts down, and I will revisit some time down the road, later in the year, or when my conviction wavers.
